What makes a good story? How do writers write? How does an idea become a book? These are just some of the burning questions students have. Children's author Doreen Fera addresses these questions and more in classroom visits with elementary school students. Through her warm, engaging style and sense of humor, she demystifies the writing process for students and puts a friendly face to the title "author."
Doreen visits schools, libraries and youth organizations throughout New Jersey, Southeastern Pennsylvania, and Delaware. In addition to author classroom visits, she reads at book fairs, read-a-thons and other special events that celebrate literacy and learning! Learn more.
Get Those Creative Juices Flowing!
Doreen believes that all children are natural storytellers and it's up to adults to listen and nurture that talent. Through interactive games and exercises that complement language arts lessons, she encourages students to explore their imaginations and to find the stories that only they can tell.
Whether leading lessons for young readers about beginnings, middles and endings, or encouraging students to develop a strong character for their own stories, Doreen builds enthusiasm and excitement about reading, writing and the entire creative process.
Customized Visits to Complement Your Curriculum
When you arrange a visit, Doreen provides you with creative activities and resources to get your young writers excited for the author visit.
If you have specific needs or would like Doreen to address a particular part of your reading/writing curriculum, she can work with you to customize her presentation or workshop to meet your students’ needs. Classroom visits typically last 50 minutes, and include reading, Q&A, creative exercises, and book signing activities with students at the end of class. Doreen also can provide materials to facilitate pre-ordering of books for each class.
