I am a mother, a writer, a teacher and a lover of children's literature. As a child, I always felt libraries were as much fun as carnivals, minus the cotton candy. Today, I feel the same!
Literacy is my passion and I write so that kids will engage with the words on the page in a way that connects with who they are. I also want to inspire children to read, to write, and to create their own stories. Because I believe that children's books are the gateway to a lifelong love of reading and learning, I strive to write stories that bring magic and meaning to even the youngest of readers.
Born and raised in Philadelphia, I began writing when I was a child, and I became a professional writer and journalist as an adult. I received my Master of Fine Arts degree in Creative Writing at Rutgers University in Camden, New Jersey.
I am indebted to Rutgers University-Camden, where Rodney Robin's Fabulous Adventure! was created through a pilot program in digital storytelling. It was Rutgers' Creative Writing Program and the Department of Graphic Design that introduced me to my extraordinarily talented illustrator, Robert Miyamoto, who brought Rodney to life on the page, and my wonderful graphic designer, Gabriella Termine, who did outstanding work in production.
I love writing for children and working with their teachers to bring lessons to life. I look forward to meeting young readers and having a fabulous adventure of my own with Rodney's story!
